This meeting was a long one, once again —close to 3 hours. The "seed" for the discussion was Peter Boghossian's article titled "Welcome to Culture War 2.0: The Great Realignment".

I asked participants to read the article beforehand and bring any questions. I also produced a 33 minute video in advance of this meeting, where I offered my own comments on one part of Boghossian's argument (see the embed below). I shared this video with Dojo members, and again, asked them to bring any questions.

In hindsight, of course, there was no way this was going to be a short discussion. Too many different issues, all conceptually tricky. I enjoy talking about these issues, but this isn't the best way to present them.

From a programmatic standpoint, the real value of the meeting was in our discussion of the different goals that each of us have, and how we want to create opportunities so that everyone has an opportunity to participate in activities that are a better fit for their goals and interests. In the breakdown below, I put those discussions in the first section (even though they came at the end of the conversation).

So part of my homework is to produce a survey that will help to identify different groups with different interests, so we can build a schedule of activities that will be inclusive and valuable.

I'm also going to consciously schedule different kinds of discussion activities that won't permit me to slip into lecture mode.
